Why Lord Ganesha has elephant head ?

Ganesha birth story according to hinduism mythology. One day while goddess parvati was bathing, Goddess Parvati rubbed off the sand and oil from her body and created a human figure like young boy, infused life. Parvati told him for guard at the door while paravti was bathing. After long time of meditation on mountain, Lord Shiva came to see his wife parvati, but young boy created by parvati stopped lord shiva to go inside. Lord shiva don’t know that boy was her son. That’s why god mahadev became very angry and fight with boy and cut off the head of the boy.


Goddess parvati in defenseless to destroy the universe when parvati come after bath and saw her headless son. God Shiva instantaneously send his followers (ganas) to carry the head of the first breathing being with his head the north direction they could discover. According mythology north direction is the lucky direction related with wisdom. An elephant was the first breathing being discover by god shiva followers. Trinity god Shiva placed head of an elephant on the chest of Parvati's son and give life into him. And give name Ganesha or Ganapati.

Meaning of Ganesha:-
Ganesha means the chief of the attendants of Lord Shiva.

We will also see Ganesha at guarding entrances to temples, homes, peeping out of calendar, dairy, visiting card, bill book and happily gracing marriages and other such event.


Ganesh Chaturthi Festival And Events Preparation:-

Ganesh Chaturthi 11 day’s festival but Sri Ganesha idol preparation begins 2-3 months ago. The size of Sri Ganesha idol may vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 25 feet. 2-3 days before the ganesh chaturthi homes are cleaned, make raised platforms for idol sri ganesha, highly structured arrangements are made for lighting, decoration, mirrors and flawores. The groups compete with each other to make bigger and better decoration, attractive decoration of platforms and sculptures of Sri Ganesha.

First Day of Ganesh Chaturthi Festivals And Events
On first the day of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the high priest, generally clothed in red silk dhoti, shawl, then invokes life into the idol amidst the chanting of mantras or shlokas. This ceremony is known the prana-pratishtha of Ganesha.

Every Day Ganesh Chaturthi Festivals
Aarti is performed twice in a day - in the morning between 7:30 to 9:30 and in the evening between 7:30 to 9:30.
Many persons of the community come in the evening aarti or puja.
Prasad and food (cooked without onions) are prepared for puja or aarti.
People offer prasad of modaks or peras (sweet), coconut, hibiscus or any other red flower, sheaves of grass, vermilion, rice.
Many cultural events are prearranged and people take a part in them with keen interest.

Ganesh Chaturthi Ceremony ending – Anant Chaudas
The duration of the Lord's stay varies from three, five, seven and ten days.The Ganesh Chaturthi festival end come on the day of Anant Chaudas. After ten exciting days, On the 11th day, the idol Ganesha is taken through the streets in a march accompanied with dancing, singing and peoples shouts of 'Ganpati Bappa Moriya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkarya' to be immersed in a river or the sea.
